Birthday decoration on the Bosphorus can be as understated or as extravagant as you prefer. The Basic Decoration package (€60) includes a personalised happy birthday banner with the guest's name, 20 latex balloons in a colour of your choice, and a small floral arrangement on the main table. The Standard package (€120) adds a balloon arch at the boarding gangway, table centrepieces on all guest tables, scattered rose petals, and a photo corner backdrop with balloons. The Premium Decoration package (€220) is our most comprehensive: full vessel decoration including foyer arch, table settings with organza chair covers, hanging ceiling decorations below deck, exterior fairy lights along the railings, and a custom banner visible from the dock for the birthday person's arrival reveal. All packages include the birthday cake presentation ceremony — we coordinate the lighting, music cut, and candle moment so the photos and videos capture it perfectly. Decoration colours, balloon types (latex or foil/mylar), and floral variety are selected during booking. Setup is completed 45–60 minutes before guests board. Catering for birthday events ranges from light finger food to full plated dinners. The Cocktail Catering package (€18/person, minimum 10 guests) includes a selection of hot and cold Turkish mezze: sigara böreği, stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, hummus with pita, and a cheese and charcuterie board. It is suited for 2-hour events where guests eat standing or informally. The Dinner Catering package (€38/person) provides a seated three-course dinner: a shared cold mezze starter, a main course choice (grilled sea bass, chicken shish, or vegetarian option), and dessert. Minimum 48 hours notice for dietary requirements. Birthday cake options: standard fondant-covered cake (€65, serves 15–20), tiered celebration cake (€110, serves 30–40), or custom-designed cake with edible photo print or sugar flowers (€150–200+, serves 40–60). Cakes are provided by MerrySails' partner bakery in Istanbul and delivered to the vessel before departure. Bringing your own cake from outside is permitted with advance notice. Yes. A professional DJ with a full sound system (speakers, subwoofer, mixer, laptop) is available as an add-on for €180 per event (up to 4 hours). Music genres can be specified: Turkish pop, international top 40, R&B and hip-hop, Afrobeats, Latin, or a custom mixed playlist approved by the birthday person in advance. The DJ set up on deck for events with open-air dancing, or below deck in the saloon for indoor events. For events where a live DJ is not required, a premium Bluetooth speaker system is included in all charter packages, with aux/Bluetooth connectivity for a curated Spotify playlist. Note: DJ events on the Bosphorus must comply with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality nighttime noise ordinances — music must reduce to background level by 23:00 when vessels are near residential shoreline areas. Our captains manage this automatically and can advise on route adjustments to extend high-volume music periods. Birthday parties from 10 to 100 guests can be hosted on MerrySails vessels. For groups of 10–15, a classic gulet or motor yacht provides an intimate, exclusive feel with everyone on the same deck, easy conversation, and a social atmosphere that larger groups sometimes lose. For 15–30 guests, our mid-size event yachts have both indoor and outdoor areas — the perfect size for a lively party that still feels personal. For 30–60 guests, our larger event yachts have a dedicated dance area, a full bar setup, and capacity for both seated dinner and open-deck mingling. For 60–100 guests, our largest vessel or a two-vessel charter arrangement ensures everyone has space to move comfortably. When booking for large groups, sharing the guest list breakdown (adults vs. children, dietary requirements) at least 7 days before departure helps us configure the catering and seating correctly. Children are welcome on all birthday events — life jackets in children's sizes are carried on all vessels.
